Month-long Hiatus

till the 11th of november comes, penned and pixeled plans to take a month-long full blown hiatus and choose to stalk instead of update. if she has the time to spare that is. this month's a do-or-die month since the future's pretty much at stake. results were awful, but definitely improve-able. so no more late night sleep for studying because that 7 hours of snooze is just as crucial. 8 glasses of water, some doses of exercise and raisins for snacks should aid the preps as well.

so till then, toodles! <3

You Know It's Raya When (Part II)

so much in the raya mood still and not wanting to receive trials' results just yet, i thought i'd just say this again - you know it's raya when

the brother actually smiles for the camera

the uncle and nephew go on that old school PAK bike

the boys lead the hiking pack up jambul hill

you see that those leaves from the hill have seasoned just like you

your peculiar cousin picks the seeds from the hill ground

the aunt and nephew pose for a garden ala romantic photo

the cousins and aunt take a ritual photo at the stairs

the cousin teaches the nephew how to play the piano

the cousin brothers give you a peck on the cheek for the camera

you go illegal

and take hold of as many fireworks as possible. till about RM150 worth of smuggling.

you sleep throughout the journey and wake up to see you've crossed the penang bridge ALAS

the nephews and niece agree to a sibling photo with aunty wan

even the baby joins in with the raya photo hype

the men cook up a mean barbeque for the night

you walk down that familiar corridor and realise it's been a year since

you sit on that again familiar swing exactly one Islamic year ago

you look forward to the green packets and evaluate the best one,
which this year i think personally goes to Maxis' unique clean raya packet

so that's raya '09 for you baby, 600 photos of memories' worth

Daddy Dearest

to celebrate daddy dearest, warmly known as papa to the SoS, the family gathered for a small dinner celebration at Whipped Into Place (WIP, formerly called Work In Progress) in BSC and indulged in haagenly cake - if you know what i mean. the eight savoured delicacies ranging from international cuisines to oriental favourites. since celebrations like these only come yearly, i'll let the pixels do the talking. and salivating :)

the mix

the yummies

the picture that stood out - mee goreng mamak

the WIP specialty - portobello mushrooms as starters. a MUST HAVE.

as you can see sha definitely enjoyed her finger licking lamb chop chop

and the highlight of the night - the cake blowing ceremony! it wasn't meant to be just four candles. another 7 baby candles just couldn't fit. hehe. and papa sure was glad ;)

haagenly raw

post-sliced ice cream cake to savour - cookies and cream

You Know It's Raya When

you know it's raya when;

everyone dons a matching raya attire for the family potrait

you play this and make the dogs next door bark

grandsiblings unite you shed a tear just like them

when not-so-grand siblings unite for a photo

the family takes candid photos and don't feel shy doing so

siblings and cousin smile for the camera in again, matching attire

and finally, when the SoS (siblings of sufian) take their signature photo on the compound

raya was goodgoodgood

Restless

i really don't know why i keep changing my blog layouts ever so often. i get restless not knowing i haven't gotten the right layout that portrays myself. i spend so much time looking for the right one and end up not 100% satisfied with what i chose. but anyhow, that just goes to show how easily bored i get when it comes to certain things (not love-related matters though) hehe and that i love a new dose of freshness whenever i want to. it's 1.30a.m. almost and i'm not asleep yet although raya's tomorrow.

well, i guess because i had a pretty long nap this afternoon after helping out with the kuah kacang. and yes, what better way to spend the unshut eye than on penning my feelings. so as i sit and blog while my cousin sits next to me and aunty wan turns the tube on, i thought i'd note that tomorrow's going to be a very loooong day. perhaps one that lasts till the night and packing for penang would have to start soon. too bad i won't have much time to spend with uncle teh's family seeing that they're leaving by monday afternoon. boo boo.

raya's not going to be as meriah as last year's la like this :( but i can't expect every year to be the same now can i? nevertheless, at least the adult cousin brothers are there to entertain. ngehe. last year was one full of joyful playful kiddish moments so this year's might just be one of slight maturity with equal joy and play. i've sampled the many kuih rayas already and i must say that the afghan crisps aunty wan got from her friend is THE best kuih ever. i'll pixel it once i'm free. till then, i have got to hit the sack. raya prayers tomorrow and i loved the takbir earlier tonight. that's how you know when raya comes.

Check

fitting at indah reka bsc

puasa (slightly less than a month) - CHECK
baju raya (tailor) - CHECK
kuih raya (a variety of places) - CHECK
duit raya - UNCHECK

so that leaves the angpow collecting to tomorrow. kak reeni and aunty wan are over and today's sampling was above average thanks to aunty wan's excellent cooking. the last day of ramadhan ended beautifully with everyone by the dining, saying prayer and eating simple dishes as a family. tomorrow the family plans to go to masjid at-taqwa at ttdi for our usual raya prayer. then beraya at home and only later in the afternoon do we head to uncle mazlan's new place in bandar nusa putra for some sarawakian cooking and for the ariffin congregration to meet.

a yearly event that brings the entire family together is an event most looked forward to this raya. raya in penang is of course, inevitable come the second day since we're driving up by morning. sha and kak reeni however are taking firefly to penang while the rest of us take the off beaten path by road. since raya's almost here already, i'd like to wish everyone a MEMORABLE raya, tonnes of forgiveness inside out and lets make this an awesome one :)

p/s: as i sent my raya text messages out today, i realised that there were less people to send them out to. i guess since some are already overseas, the list shortens and i miss the bunch abroad. happy raya you guys :)

Tomorrow Tomorrow

oh i cannot wait for tomorrow. come 10.10a.m., the worst of trials would be over and done with and scrapped away and dissolve into history. temporarily at least. but despite the celebration of ending trials, i have to say tomorrow's going to be an equally emotional day since yi ling leaves for manchester. more like already left since her flight's at superearly 2am. :(

the girl i used to always confuse with lih jing. somehow.

i have so much to say but it would be unfair for me to compress it into a short blog post. one thing's for sure is that i'm going to miss the cheerful smile she never fails to have across her face. her never ending laughter and constant time to spare for me even in college seriously tears me knowing that i cannot send her off at the airport.

i really really want to. i really wish i could yi ling. and for not seeing you after so long, it makes me miss you so much more and hurts me to have you leave without me giving you a bon voyage token or something. UK's pretty far away and the next time we meet would most likely be next year. hopefully.

so i do hope you come back dear. and if i happen to be down under next year with farahin and joanne in new zealand, i do hope we can go backpacking and travel with the rest of the DU-rian bunch one day. you intelligent and awesome people have always had a soft spot in my heart. and if it were not for my trials this week, you know i'd do whatever it takes to see you dear. even for a minute's worth of warm lingling hug :( :( :(

here dear, is MY WISH for you;

"My Wish"
I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.

But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
Yeah, this, is my wish.

This is my wish
I hope you know somebody loves you
May all your dreams stay big

Pretty Harsh

out of all the 18976++ topics that could have come out for ESL, they chose corporal punishment. a topic that i am so too familiar with as it was my research topic to begin with. text 1, author Greydanus was also among the list of authors in one of the sources for my essay and yes, he's an icon when it comes to all things CP. i don't however mean to say that i had the advantage of constructing the essay, but i felt a certain connection that i doubt other people did. anyhow, i still loved the topic for addressing the issue we should all be aware of ;)

so today marks the 2nd day of the war and there's only a couple of days left to it. fasting takes another four days and then it's back to atok's place in subang and to penang the next day. i am insanely impatient to go back to penang this time around. only because abg jeff suggests that we hold the awesome barbeque like we did last year in the tnb seaside bungalow. this time around however, he assures us that there will be bigger and tastier meats to relish in by the sea. nyumm nyumm nyumm. even thinking about the delightful delicacies of the island brings about sweet memories of incredible penang experience, more so during raya when the whole che din crowd gather.

i vividly remember the entire 20 odd crowd we were all in with four to five separate cars, hijacking the roadside stalls and wreaking havoc wherever we went last year. and now that we have two addition of babies to the che din family, hopefully the fun only gets bigger and a whole lot better. as i joyfully sing to the raya tunes this season, i'm still waiting for the petronas raya advert on the tube. don't tell me there's only one director we can count on for their signature adverts? that's too weak an excuse.

One Down

i don't recall SPM to be as hard. i recall it to be time consuming though, but SAM is seriously - a whole lot worse (in my humble point of view). the three hour paper didn't seem as long because when it came to the third booklet of the chemistry paper with about an hour left, i really felt more that more time was needed. as i flipped through the third booklet, speed reading the tedious questions that required careful analysis, i knew this booklet was THE hardest.

and my prediction was correct. the entire two pages on calculations left me in awe, not knowing what move to do next, whether i should spend more time or instead check on my previous answers. i attempted the questions however, but that didn't raise my confidence level in the paper at all. i knew i was better prepared though for this paper, but then again chemistry has and will always be hardest among the sciences.

now however i have no choice but to focus on tomorrow, with full hope yet again, to be able to go through physics smoothly. my second last physics paper for the rest of my life, i would like to add :) so after one down, there's just four to go. *wipes sweat*

It Begins

oh yeah, the 4-day war/paper massacre begins today

with Chemistry, then Physics & ESL, then Biology and finally Math

so to SAM - to the end, we fight!

and then we raya kay (:
